Volunteer in emergencies
In an emergency such as a transport incident, evacuation, flood, fire or another Beast from the East you’ll be there to help!
About The Emergency Response Volunteers
We are looking for volunteers to help and assist local communities when the next big incident impacts upon East Lothian such as severe weather (snow/flooding), utilities failure and/or another unexpected large scale incident. You could be asked to complete tasks such as checking on vulnerable elderly neighbours, collecting & delivering prescription medications/food for those who are unable to do so or if you have a 4×4 vehicle assist in transporting vulnerable people to and from hospital/doctors when snow/ice has impacted on the region. No job will be too small including, for instance, clearing snow from paths, making hot refreshments in a hall or assisting with administration tasks.
Volunteers will be expected to work with already created voluntary groups in the Community who have Emergency Response plans and have, in some areas, pre-determined tasks agreed, related to the risks that area faces.
We’ll be holding information sessions to tell you more about this initiative, including insurance cover and call out processes, so sign up now for this very rewarding role!
