Mission Statement: "Preserving and presenting East Lothian's cultural heritage."
East Lothian Council Museums Service came into existence in 1990 with the appointment of the first Museums Officer, although the then District Council had operated a museum in North Berwick since 1975. The service has three museums:
There are also 2 independently run museums in North Berwick and Musselburgh.
Our Good Memories Café offers lots of nice activities – and cake and friendly chat – for people with dementia and their carers. Using some of the local history centre and museum resources (eg photos and other visual items, museum handling objects, replica costumes and guided visits round the museum itself), we hope to provide some memory stimulation and food for conversation. Other planned activities for the café include occasional visits from a local storyteller, music and singing, knitting and sewing, board games.
We need volunteers to help run the event, welcoming people who come, sitting and talking with them, helping with tours and some of the other activities (showing and chatting about pictures, playing games, knitting etc), and perhaps also helping with some of the refreshments. We hope that ultimately this will be an entirlely volunteer-run event.
It is monthly on Fridays, 2-4pm. 13 Feb, 13 March, 10 Apr, 15 May, 12 Jun (so far).
