To help people maintain independence and dignity in their homes and communities particularly in later life.
When family and friends live too far away, and people feel socially isolated due to lack of mobility, have a lack of transport or are unable to use public transport, RVS volunteers can provide contact through regular telephone calls.
This helps to reduce feelings of loneliness and isolation, helping to increase motivation and confidence through lively and stimulating chats. The service provides a vital link to the community.
It's our way of helping people stay independent whilst providing friendly social contact and making sure they are safe and well.
Our volunteers need to be patient, courteous, understanding, caring and reliable. They also need to respect confidentiality at all times. We need you to have an interest in other people and their welfare, and enjoy chatting on the phone.
We cover the whole of East Lothian. Volunteers will need to have access to a phone.
